What to put on a massage therapy invoice

  • Your licence or registration number, which most insurers require
  • The date and duration of each session
  • The treatment type, where the client's plan distinguishes them
  • Packages or blocks purchased, with sessions remaining
  • Any referral or prescribing practitioner, where the plan needs one
  • The cancellation policy, applied visibly when it is charged

Questions

What does an insurer need on the receipt?

Usually your name and licence number, the client's name, the date, the duration and the amount paid. Missing licence numbers are the single most common reason a therapy claim is returned.

Should I issue an invoice or a receipt?

Both, effectively: an invoice showing what was provided and a clear record of what was paid. Clients submitting to a spending account need the document to say the treatment happened and that they paid for it.
