What to put on a home care invoice

The client's name and the address care was provided at
Each shift by date and hours, rather than a monthly total
Overnight, weekend and holiday hours at their own rates
Mileage for errands and appointments, at cost or at the standard rate
Expenses paid on the client's behalf — groceries, prescriptions — with receipts referenced
The care tasks covered, in plain words a family member can check

Questions

Should overnight hours be billed at a different rate?

Almost always, and the invoice should show both rates. Awake overnight care and sleeping overnight care are different products at different prices, and families compare them line by line when the bill grows.

How do I bill for groceries I bought?

At cost, on their own line, with receipts kept. Money spent on a client's behalf must never be inside your hourly rate — that is the line an agency, a family member or a court is most likely to ask about.
