Seamless gutter is fabricated on the truck in front of the house, which makes it one of the most quotable jobs there is: the run is measured from the ground, the colour is picked from a chart, and the material comes off a roll of known cost. The one thing measurable only when the old gutter comes off is the fascia behind it — so that is the sentence a gutter quote owes the homeowner.

The fascia was inspected from a ladder at three points and looked sound. If a section will not hold a hanger once the old gutter is down, it is photographed and quoted at $9.00 per foot before we go any further.

What this quote commits you to

How long it stands: 30 days. Coil stock is bought by the roll at the day's aluminium price, and the roll is ordered in your colour once you accept.
What it does not cover: Fascia and soffit repair, roof edge flashing, underground drain lines, and cleaning of the existing gutters we are removing.
What would change the price: Fascia found soft when the old gutter comes off, priced per foot and photographed before any of it is replaced.
How the client accepts it: Accept by signed quote; the run is formed on site on the install day, so the colour is fixed once the coil is on the truck.

What to put on a gutter installation quote

Linear feet of gutter by profile — 5 in. or 6 in. K-style, half-round
Downspout count, size and where each one discharges
Hanger type and spacing, since that is what decides whether it holds in ice
Coil colour and gauge, chosen before the roll is loaded
Removal and disposal of the existing gutter as its own line
Guards or screens quoted as an option, priced per foot rather than bundled
The condition of the fascia the new gutter will hang on

Questions

Why is gutter quoted per linear foot but downspouts per each?

Because the run comes off a continuous roll and a downspout is an assembly — elbows, straps, a drop outlet. Mixing them into one number hides the fact that a house with four downspouts and one with nine are different jobs on the same length of gutter.

What if the fascia is rotten?

Seamless gutter cannot be hung on board that will not hold a hanger, so the quote should carry a per-foot rate for fascia replacement rather than a silence. The homeowner then sees the risk priced instead of discovering it on install morning.

Can the colour change after acceptance?

Not once the coil is on the truck. A run is formed on site from one roll, so the colour is fixed at ordering — which is a good reason to have the client confirm it in writing rather than over the phone.
