Solar Installation Quote Template
System size in kW DC, module and inverter models, production estimate, interconnection. Free PDF, no sign-up.
A solar quote is the most-compared document in home improvement: the buyer will put three of them side by side and look for the price per watt. That comparison only works if the document says what it is comparing — module model, inverter type, system size in kW DC and a production estimate with its assumptions. All of that is known before installation, which is why the price can bind, and why vagueness in a solar quote reads as evasion rather than as brevity.

What this quote commits you to
- How long it stands
- 30 days, at the module and inverter models named; a supply change after that window is re-quoted at the new equipment cost.
- What it does not cover
- Main panel upgrades, roof repair or re-covering before mount, charges the utility levies for interconnection, HOA applications, and tree trimming for shade.
- What would change the price
- A structural review that calls for rafter reinforcement, or a condition the utility adds while reviewing the interconnection application.
- How the client accepts it
- Sign the quote and the interconnection authorisation together; the utility application cannot be filed without both of them.

What to put on a solar installation quote
- System size in kW DC and the resulting price per watt, stated rather than left to arithmetic
- Module and inverter by manufacturer and model, with the microinverter or optimiser named
- Annual production estimate in kWh, and the tool and shading assumptions behind it
- Racking and attachment method, and the flashing used at each penetration
- Roof condition assessment, and the remaining life the design assumes
- Interconnection application, permitting and inspection as their own lines
- Which incentives are applied on this document and which the buyer claims themselves
Questions
Should an incentive the buyer claims be shown as a discount?
No. A rebate or credit the buyer applies for themselves is not money you are taking off your price, and netting it off makes your quote look cheaper while promising a benefit you do not control. Show the gross price, and name the programme and who files it separately.
What makes a production estimate credible?
Naming the tool, the tilt and azimuth, and the shading survey it used. A number with no method behind it is a marketing figure, and a buyer comparing three quotes will treat it that way.
Who is responsible if the utility adds an interconnection condition?
Say so on the quote. Utilities do add requirements during review — a transformer upgrade, a specific disconnect — and that is a price change nobody can foresee, which is exactly why it belongs in the terms rather than in a phone call later.
