Gutters are priced by the foot and fail at the details: the downspouts, the pitch and the fascia they hang on. An invoice that shows only footage hides the parts that decide whether the system actually moves water away from the house, which is the only thing the customer is buying.

Notes

Six downspouts rather than the four on the original system: the rear run collects a large roof area and was overflowing at the corner. Eighteen feet of fascia behind the old gutter was rotten and was replaced before hanging. Colour is musket brown, .032 gauge, should a section ever need matching.

What to put on a gutter installation invoice

Linear feet by gutter size and material, and whether it was run seamless on site
Downspouts counted, with the drops and any underground connection
Gutter guards separately, since they are usually a later decision at a real price
Fascia or soffit repair found during removal, which is carpentry rather than guttering
Removal and disposal of the old system
Colour and gauge, which matter when a section is replaced years later

Questions

Why do downspouts need their own line?

Because the number of them is what makes the system work, and it is the thing a cheaper quote quietly reduces. Two downspouts on a run that needs four will overflow in heavy rain no matter how good the gutter is.

Should fascia repair be expected?

It is common and it cannot be quoted before the old gutter comes off. Bill it as its own line naming the footage repaired — a customer accepts rotten board replaced far more readily than a total that grew without explanation.

Are gutter guards worth billing separately?

Always. They often cost as much as the gutter itself, customers decline them at least as often as they accept, and a bundled price makes the whole job look overpriced against a quote that left them out.
