What FreshBooks is good at
It genuinely is accounting software, not an invoicing app with a ledger bolted on — double-entry bookkeeping, expense tracking, time tracking and project management sit behind the same login as the invoice. For a business that wants one subscription to run all of that, FreshBooks is a serious, mature choice, and this page isn't arguing otherwise.
Where it stops
- Every plan caps the number of billable clients you can invoice, and the cap is the reason to upgrade — not a feature you outgrow, a wall you hit.
- Extra team members cost a recurring per-seat fee on top of the plan, every month, whether they touch an invoice that month or not.
- The subscription runs whether or not you send an invoice that billing cycle — a slow month still gets charged.
What we do differently
BillingHub has no client cap on any plan — a fifth client costs the same as the first. A credit is spent only when you issue an invoice, so a month with nothing to bill costs nothing, and there's no per-seat fee for a teammate who needs to see the account.
When to choose FreshBooks over us
If you want bookkeeping, expense tracking and time tracking under the same login as your invoices, and your client count comfortably sits inside one of their tiers, FreshBooks is the more complete tool and the subscription buys real software beyond invoicing. We only do invoices, estimates, quotes and getting paid — nothing else.
Common questions
- Does BillingHub limit how many clients I can bill?
- No. Every plan invoices any number of clients — the price is the same for a fifth client as for the first.
- Do I pay anything if I don't send an invoice this month?
- No. A credit is only spent when you issue an invoice, so a quiet month costs nothing.
