What to put on a dog grooming invoice

  • The dog's name, breed and approximate weight or size band
  • The base groom for that size and coat type
  • De-matting or stripping by the quarter hour, where it applied
  • Add-ons: nails, teeth, ears, anal glands, de-shedding treatment
  • Handling time for a dog that needed two people or extra breaks
  • Any note for next time — clip length, sensitivities, what went well

Questions

How do I charge for a matted coat?

By the time it took, on its own line, and tell the owner before you start. De-matting billed silently inside the groom price reads as a price rise; billed openly it reads as work they were warned about.

Should the invoice carry grooming notes?

It is the one document the owner keeps. A line recording the clip length used and any sensitivity saves both of you a conversation at the next appointment, and it makes the invoice feel like a record rather than a demand.
