Drywall is priced by the sheet and judged by the finish, and the finish is where the arguments happen. A Level 3 wall under flat paint and a Level 5 wall under a gloss are different jobs at the same square footage, so the level belongs on the invoice as plainly as the sheet count.

What to put on a drywall invoice

  • Sheets hung, by thickness and size
  • The finish level — Level 3, 4 or 5 — stated explicitly
  • Taping and mudding coats, where you bill them apart from hanging
  • Texture, if any, by type: knockdown, orange peel, smooth
  • Corner bead, and any arch or curved work, which is not sheet-rate work
  • Waste removal, since drywall offcuts fill a skip fast

Questions

Why does the finish level matter on the invoice?

Because it is the difference between a wall that passes and a wall that shows every seam under a raking light. Level 5 costs materially more than Level 4, and a customer who was quoted one and billed the other has no way to tell without the invoice saying which was done.

Should hanging and finishing be separate lines?

If you do both, yes. They are separate trades in most of the country and separate crews on larger jobs, and splitting them lets a builder compare your price to the two quotes they already have.
