Funeral Home Invoice Template
Itemised goods and services, basic services fee and cash advances, as the Funeral Rule requires. Free PDF.
A funeral invoice is not an ordinary bill: the FTC Funeral Rule requires an itemised Statement of Funeral Goods and Services Selected, given immediately after arrangements are made, listing everything chosen with its price. The itemisation is the point — the Rule exists so a family can decline anything they do not want, and a document that only shows a package total defeats it.

What to put on a funeral home invoice
- Every good and service selected, itemised with its own price
- The basic services fee, which is the one charge a family cannot decline
- Merchandise — casket, urn, outer burial container — priced individually
- Cash advances paid on the family's behalf: cemetery, clergy, certificates, newspaper
- Any item required by the cemetery or by state law, with the requirement named
- The total, after the itemisation rather than instead of it
Questions
What is the basic services fee?
The charge for the funeral director's services and overhead, and the only non-declinable fee under the Funeral Rule. Everything else on the statement is something the family chose and could have declined, which is why it all has to appear separately.
Can I bill a package instead of itemising?
You may offer packages, but you cannot require one as a condition of supplying other items, and the family is entitled to buy à la carte. The itemised statement is required regardless of what they chose.
How should cash advances appear?
On their own lines, named, as money paid on the family's behalf rather than as your own charges — cemetery fees, clergy honoraria, death certificates. Mixing them into service lines makes your fees look far larger than they are and obscures money that was never yours.
