A garage door is a catalogue product fitted to a measured opening, which is about as quotable as construction work gets. The number turns on three measurements — width, height and headroom — and on which spring and opener the door is paired with. Put the model, the cycle rating and the track type on the quote, and the client can tell the difference between two bids that both say "new garage door".

What this quote commits you to

How long it stands
30 days on the door section and hardware; the opener is held at its current model, and a discontinued model is quoted again.
What it does not cover
Framing repair to a rotten jamb, a ceiling outlet where none exists, drywall around the new track, and a second door not listed above.
What would change the price
A headroom or backroom measurement taken on installation day that requires low-headroom track instead of the standard lift priced here.
How the client accepts it
Confirm the colour and window inserts by reply, then sign — sections are painted to order and colours are not returnable.

What to put on a garage door quote

  • Door model, panel style and insulation value, by manufacturer's name
  • Opening width and height as measured, plus the headroom and backroom available
  • Track type: standard lift, low headroom or high lift, and why
  • Spring system and its cycle rating — 10,000 cycles is not 25,000
  • Opener by model, drive type and horsepower, with the safety sensors included
  • Removal and disposal of the old door and its springs
  • Colour and window inserts, confirmed before the section is ordered

Questions

Why does the spring cycle rating belong on a quote?

Because it is the difference between a door that needs a service call in seven years and one that lasts twenty, and it is invisible in a photograph. Two quotes at different prices are often the same door with different springs behind it.

What does headroom have to do with the price?

It decides the track. A garage with less than twelve inches above the opening needs low-headroom hardware, which costs more and installs slower — so the measurement, not just the door size, is what the fixed price is standing on.

Can the colour be changed after ordering?

No, and it is worth putting in writing. Sections are painted at the factory and made to order, so a colour changed after release is a new door rather than an adjustment.
