Welding Quote Template

Steel by the section, shop hours, coating and field install — tied to a drawing revision. Free PDF, no sign-up.

Fabrication is quoted from a drawing, and that is what makes the number binding: the material take-off is countable, the weld inches are countable, and the finish is specified. What is not countable is the site, so the price is tied to a drawing revision and to a field measure that either agrees with it or does not. State the revision number on the quote and everyone knows which document the price belongs to.

What this quote commits you to

How long it stands
14 days. Steel is bought against the mill's published extras, and those are re-issued fortnightly.
What it does not cover
Engineering stamps and calculations, third-party NDT or x-ray, hot-work permits, galvanising, and any crane or lift on site.
What would change the price
A field measure that disagrees with the drawing it was priced from, or a weld procedure calling for a certified WPS we do not already hold.
How the client accepts it
Approve the shop drawing and the quote together — fabrication starts from the approved drawing, not from the quote.

What to put on a welding quote

  • The drawing number and revision the price was taken off
  • Material by section and grade — HSS, angle, plate, and their weights
  • Shop hours separated from field hours, because they carry different rates
  • Finish: mill scale, primed, powder coated or galvanised, named explicitly
  • Weld procedure and whether certification or third-party inspection is required
  • Delivery, off-loading and who supplies the lift on site
  • Whether the field measure has been taken yet, or the price is from the drawing alone

Questions

Why tie a welding quote to a drawing revision?

Because a revision is how the scope changes without anyone saying so. Rev C with a heavier top rail is a different tonnage and a different price, and naming the revision makes that visible instead of arguable.

How long can steel pricing be held?

About a fortnight for most shops. Mill extras and the plate market move on their own schedule, and a month-long validity on a heavy take-off is a quiet bet against them.

Who pays for engineering stamps?

The client, and the quote should exclude them by name. A stamped calculation is a licensed engineer's liability, not the fabricator's, and pricing it into a fabrication line hides both the cost and the responsibility.

About the free quote generator

Is this quote generator really free?

Yes. There is no fee, no trial period and no watermark on the PDF. Nothing on this page requires a credit card.

What is the difference between a quote and an estimate?

A quote is a fixed price you are offering to hold, and it is binding on you once the client accepts it. An estimate is your best projection of the cost and can move if the job does. If the scope is not settled yet, send an estimate instead.

Is a quote legally binding?

Once a client accepts it within the period it stands, a quote generally forms a contract at that price — the details depend on your jurisdiction and on what the document itself says. That is why the price, the scope and the exclusions all belong in writing, and why the document prints the date the offer expires.

How long should a quote be valid until?

Thirty days is the common default, and two weeks is sensible when materials prices are moving. Whatever you choose, state it on the quote: an offer with no expiry is an offer you have made for ever.

Can I raise the price after the client accepts?

Not unilaterally, which is the point of quoting rather than estimating. What you can do is price the variations the client asks for afterwards, provided the quote said what was and was not included.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Fill in the form and download the PDF directly — there is no sign-up and no login for this tool.

Can the client accept the quote online?

Not from a downloaded PDF. Saving the quote to an account gives it a link the client opens and answers on, and the acceptance is recorded against the document rather than living in an email thread.

Can I use this for any currency or country?

Yes. Choose any currency and country for either party — the totals and formatting follow your selection.
