Drywall is the trade with the clearest unit of work in construction: a sheet is a sheet, and a room takes the number of sheets it takes. That makes a fixed price straightforward and makes the argument move somewhere else — onto the finish level, which is invisible on a quote that only says "drywall". Name the level, price the taping apart from the hanging, and the client can see what the smooth wall actually costs.

What this quote commits you to

How long it stands: 30 days. Board and compound are quoted from the supply house's contractor pricing, which is reset at the start of each month.
What it does not cover: Priming and painting, insulation, access panels supplied by others, and removal of debris another trade generated.
What would change the price: A framing survey that finds studs out of plane, since a flat finish over bowed framing is a floating job rather than a taping job.
How the client accepts it: Accept in writing and confirm the framing is complete and inspected — the crew is scheduled against the inspection date, not the signature date.

The finish level by number — level four and level five are different jobs at different money
Hanging and taping as separate lines, because they are separate crews
Corner bead: metal, paper-faced or bullnose, and how many linear feet
Whether stocking the board into the building is included, and up which stair
Sanding method, and whether dust containment is priced
Who is responsible for the framing being flat enough to finish over

Questions

What does 'level five' add to a drywall quote?

A skim coat over the whole surface, which is another day of labour and another round of sanding. It matters where raking light or a gloss paint will show every joint, and quoting level four while the client pictures level five is where this trade's disputes start.

Should stocking the board be a line item?

Yes, especially above the ground floor. Carrying a hundred sheets up two flights is hours of labour that vanishes into a square-foot rate, and the client who watches it happen has no idea it was ever priced.

What if the framing is not flat?

Say on the quote that the price assumes framing within tolerance and inspected. Floating a bowed wall to a flat finish is a plastering job, not a taping job, and it is the one condition that reliably breaks a drywall price.

Is a quote legally binding?

Once a client accepts it within the period it stands, a quote generally forms a contract at that price — the details depend on your jurisdiction and on what the document itself says. That is why the price, the scope and the exclusions all belong in writing, and why the document prints the date the offer expires.

How long should a quote be valid until?

Thirty days is the common default, and two weeks is sensible when materials prices are moving. Whatever you choose, state it on the quote: an offer with no expiry is an offer you have made for ever.

Can I raise the price after the client accepts?

Not unilaterally, which is the point of quoting rather than estimating. What you can do is price the variations the client asks for afterwards, provided the quote said what was and was not included.

Do I need to create an account?
