A handyman's invoice is a list of small jobs, and the list is the value. A customer who booked "a few things" and receives one line reading four hours has no way to remember what those hours went into — and next time books someone who told them.

Work done
Rehung two interior doors, replaced a bathroom latch, re-caulked the tub surround, remounted a loose stair handrail and cleared a slow bathroom drain. The kitchen outlet that was reported dead needs a licensed electrician — it is not a fixture fault and is beyond what I can do here.

What to put on a handyman invoice

  • Each task as its own line, however small
  • The rate basis: hourly, half day or per task, stated plainly
  • A minimum call-out or trip charge, if you have one
  • Materials bought for the job, at cost or with a stated markup
  • Anything you looked at and did not do, with the reason
  • What a licensed trade needs to finish — the referral is worth more than the line

Questions

Hourly or per task?

Hourly is easier to price and harder to sell; per task is the reverse. Whichever you choose, list the tasks anyway — the list is what makes an hourly total feel earned.

What if a job turns out to need a licensed trade?

Put it on the invoice as a note rather than leaving it in conversation. Most states limit unlicensed work by trade and by dollar value, and a written "this needs a licensed electrician" protects the customer and you at the same time.
