Wiring a defined scope is quotable work: the circuits are countable, the devices are countable, and the panel is either big enough or it is not. What an electrician cannot see is inside the walls, so a fixed price has to say what it assumed about them. Quote the count and the assumption in the same document, and the one thing that could reopen the price is written down before anyone finds it.

What this quote commits you to

How long it stands
21 days, tied to the copper price on the day it was written — wire is the one line on this job that moves weekly.
What it does not cover
Drywall patching and painting after the chases are cut, and the utility's own charge for a service disconnect and reconnect.
What would change the price
Anything the walls hide: knob-and-tube, aluminium branch circuits, or a panel of a recalled type that nobody will supply breakers for.
How the client accepts it
Return the signed quote before the permit is filed; the application carries the scope from it word for word.

What to put on an electrical quote

  • Circuits by count and by rating — a 20A kitchen circuit is not a 15A bedroom circuit
  • Devices itemised: receptacles, switches, dimmers, AFCI and GFCI breakers
  • Panel work stated as a load calculation result, not as an opinion
  • Whether the utility has to disconnect and reconnect, and who pays their charge
  • The permit and the rough-in and final inspections as their own lines
  • The wire the price assumes — copper priced on the day the quote was written
  • What happens if knob-and-tube or aluminium branch wiring turns up behind a wall

Questions

Can an electrician give a fixed price without opening the walls?

For a defined scope, yes — and the honest way to do it is to state the wiring method the price assumes. "Priced on the existing branch circuits being copper NM cable" turns an unknown into a named condition instead of a surprise.

Why does an electrical quote expire faster than other trades'?

Copper. Wire is the one material on the job that moves week to week, so a three-week validity on a rewire is realistic and a ninety-day one is a bet you did not mean to place.

Should the permit fee be marked up?

Pass it through at cost on its own line and charge your time to file and attend separately. Homeowners can look up the fee schedule, and a marked-up permit is the line that makes them doubt the rest of the document.

About the free quote generator

Is this quote generator really free?

Yes. There is no fee, no trial period and no watermark on the PDF. Nothing on this page requires a credit card.

What is the difference between a quote and an estimate?

A quote is a fixed price you are offering to hold, and it is binding on you once the client accepts it. An estimate is your best projection of the cost and can move if the job does. If the scope is not settled yet, send an estimate instead.

Is a quote legally binding?

Once a client accepts it within the period it stands, a quote generally forms a contract at that price — the details depend on your jurisdiction and on what the document itself says. That is why the price, the scope and the exclusions all belong in writing, and why the document prints the date the offer expires.

How long should a quote be valid until?

Thirty days is the common default, and two weeks is sensible when materials prices are moving. Whatever you choose, state it on the quote: an offer with no expiry is an offer you have made for ever.

Can I raise the price after the client accepts?

Not unilaterally, which is the point of quoting rather than estimating. What you can do is price the variations the client asks for afterwards, provided the quote said what was and was not included.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Fill in the form and download the PDF directly — there is no sign-up and no login for this tool.

Can the client accept the quote online?

Not from a downloaded PDF. Saving the quote to an account gives it a link the client opens and answers on, and the acceptance is recorded against the document rather than living in an email thread.

Can I use this for any currency or country?

Yes. Choose any currency and country for either party — the totals and formatting follow your selection.
